Labor Day Activities Around the Garden State

Labor Day is almost here, and that can only mean one thing; summer is coming to an end. It’s time for one last weekend of warm weather and fun before the kids go back to school and the sweaters make their way back into the closet. From the north to the south sides of the Garden State, here’s look at what’s happening this Labor Day weekend.

North Jersey

Cloister’s 54th Annual Labor Day Weekend

On Monday, September 1, Veterans Memorial Park at Harrington Avenue in Bergen County will be filled with pony rides, music, food and drink concessions, plus rides for children of all ages. Several activities will take place throughout the day, concluding with a fireworks display.

Rutherford Street Fair

Drawing over 25,000 people each year, the Rutherford Street Fair — that’s also being held on September 1 — is sure to please. It’s largest and longest running street fair in New Jersey featuring a variety of craft vendors, 100 plus antique dealers, and several local food vendors.

Annual Outdoor BBQ at White Lake Beach

At $15 for adults and $8 for children ages 6 through 12, families can enjoy a Luau themed barbecue at the beautiful White Lake Beach in Sparta (Sussex County). The event starts at 2pm on Saturday, August 30.

South Plainfield’s 57th Annual Labor Day Parade

Kicking off at 10 am on Monday, South Plainfield’s Annual Labor Day Parade will feature clowns, bagpipers, handmade floats, characters in costume, and much more. Each year this parade — one of the oldest and biggest in the Garden State — features a theme. This year’s? Winter Wonderland. Following the parade, there will be live entertainment provided by the band 9 South along with plenty of vendors selling food and crafts. As the sun goes down, there will be fireworks.

Monmouth Park BBQ & Craft Beer Festival

Enjoy your three-day weekend with a cold beer. Monmouth Park’s Barbecue and Craft Festival is back. Lucky for our Middlebrook at Monmouth residents – Monmouth Park is a short cab ride away. The two day long festival kicks off on Saturday. Admission is just $3, plus $10 for the Beer Garden.

Jazz It Up Wine Festival

What do you get when you combine music, wine, and breathtaking views of the historic Allaire Village? New Jersey’s largest wine festival, of course! This two-day festival, presented by Garden State Wine Growers and Allaire Village will showcase a variety of Jersey-grown wines and offer over 200 types of wine to for sampling. It’s being held on Saturday and Sunday.

Ocean City Labor Day Race

Running on the beach is great way to get one last seaside work out in with friends and family before the summer ends. You can choose to participate in either the five-mile run or the one-mile health walk and run. The race kicks off at 9am on Monday, leaving plenty of time for you to make a barbeque in the afternoon!

43rd Annual Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival

Beginning as early as 12:30 pm on Friday over in Woodstown at the Salem County Fair Grounds, fair goers will be setting up their tents for a weekend filled with musical performances. The Annual Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival will be in town.

“Watch the tram car please” as you enjoy twelve hours of free family fun at the Wildwood Block Party and Music Festival. Fox Park will be filled with a variety of activities and entertainment from crafts and games to great food and live music.
