Labor Day is almost here, and that can only mean one thing; summer is coming to an end. It’s time for one last weekend of warm weather and fun before the kids go back to school and the sweaters make their way back into the closet. From the north to the south sides of the Garden State, here’s look at what’s happening this Labor Day weekend.
On Monday, September 1, Veterans Memorial Park at Harrington Avenue in Bergen County will be filled with pony rides, music, food and drink concessions, plus rides for children of all ages. Several activities will take place throughout the day, concluding with a fireworks display.
Drawing over 25,000 people each year, the Rutherford Street Fair — that’s also being held on September 1 — is sure to please. It’s largest and longest running street fair in New Jersey featuring a variety of craft vendors, 100 plus antique dealers, and several local food vendors.
At $15 for adults and $8 for children ages 6 through 12, families can enjoy a Luau themed barbecue at the beautiful White Lake Beach in Sparta (Sussex County). The event starts at 2pm on Saturday, August 30.
Kicking off at 10 am on Monday, South Plainfield’s Annual Labor Day Parade will feature clowns, bagpipers, handmade floats, characters in costume, and much more. Each year this parade — one of the oldest and biggest in the Garden State — features a theme. This year’s? Winter Wonderland. Following the parade, there will be live entertainment provided by the band 9 South along with plenty of vendors selling food and crafts. As the sun goes down, there will be fireworks.
Enjoy your three-day weekend with a cold beer. Monmouth Park’s Barbecue and Craft Festival is back. Lucky for our Middlebrook at Monmouth and Tinton Pines residents – Monmouth Park is a short cab ride away. The two day long festival kicks off on Saturday. Admission is just $3, plus $10 for the Beer Garden.
What do you get when you combine music, wine, and breathtaking views of the historic Allaire Village? New Jersey’s largest wine festival, of course! This two-day festival, presented by Garden State Wine Growers and Allaire Village will showcase a variety of Jersey-grown wines and offer over 200 types of wine to for sampling. It’s being held on Saturday and Sunday.
Running on the beach is great way to get one last seaside work out in with friends and family before the summer ends. You can choose to participate in either the five-mile run or the one-mile health walk and run. The race kicks off at 9am on Monday, leaving plenty of time for you to make a barbeque in the afternoon!
Beginning as early as 12:30 pm on Friday over in Woodstown at the Salem County Fair Grounds, fair goers will be setting up their tents for a weekend filled with musical performances. The Annual Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival will be in town.
