The Golden Residents Club Welcomes Dorothy Jean Jones

Garden Communities continues to honor long-time residents with one year of rent-free living. In August 2020, Garden Communities established an appreciation program for their most loyal residents in the form of The Golden Residents Club. This exclusive club recognizes residents who have lived in one of their apartment communities for 50 years or more, becoming a backbone of the community and acknowledging their long-term tenure with Garden Communities’ dedicated staff members.

The latest inductee is Dorothy Jean Jones from Princeton Gardens, who was recently awarded a year of rent-free living, courtesy of Garden Communities. Reverend Doctor Dorothy Jean Jones is the first to receive this honor at this property and is, in her own words, “floating on cloud nine.”

Years of Joyous Living

Dorothy Jean spent part of her youth growing up in Brooklyn, New York, but she knew she wasn’t a city person. She and her brother would spend time at her aunt’s home in New Jersey over the summer, and returning to the city was, for her, unpleasant. A short while later, her family moved out to Somerville, NJ, and she was overjoyed- space to ride bikes, parks to play in, a strong community, and church right next door. But as she grew to a young woman, she wanted the freedom and responsibility of her own home.

In 1971, a young Dorothy Jean moved out of her parents’ Somerville, NJ home and into her own apartment at Princeton Gardens in Piscataway, NJ. She fondly recalls having her entire family over after Christmas dinner that very year to show off her new home. It was a step towards maturity and growth – learning how to budget her finances, being responsible for her own furniture and food, etc. She worked for Johnson & Johnson for ten years and then went on to Telcordia Technologies, now known as iconectiv, for over 20 years, from where she retired to spend more time focusing on her education, her faith, and her extended family.

Faith and Love

Dorothy Jean has worked with and for several churches in the Middlesex County area. She is currently with Morning Star Community Christian Center. Residing in Princeton Gardens has further developed the strength of community within Dorothy, and she is proud to call it home for the last 50 years. “My life has been rich,” says Dorothy Jean Jones, “I’ve been blessed in so many ways.” She plans to live to be 100 and spend more time helping the community and the faithful along the way.

Golden Residents

“Developing this program means so much to us here at Garden Communities,” states Steven Lefkowitz, Controller at Garden Communities. “Being a family-centric business and in operation since 1954, legacy is important to us. That is exactly what our Golden Residents are — a legacy in their own right, and a legacy of our Garden Communities’ properties”.

Dorothy Jean Jones is one of several Golden Residents and is the first at Princeton Gardens in Piscataway, NJ. As we grow and expand, we hope more people join the Golden Residents Club soon and into the future, as our residents are our legacy. We love our Golden Residents!
