As temperatures cool down, the thought of football games, crisp nights, and falling leaves might pop into your head. Fall is also a great time to support local farmers and go pumpkin or apple picking. Whether you plan on creating an apple pie or carving a jack-o-lantern, here are some of the best places to pick your own pumpkins or apples in the Garden State.
Wightman’s Farms

Hours: Saturday & Sunday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wightman’s Farms is a short drive from many of our Morris County properties. Their fields are open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for apple and pumpkin picking. According to Mommy Poppins, there’s also a corn sandbox that is popular with children. Season memberships are available for $15 and are valid for up to five people.
Abma’s Farm Market & Nursery

Hours: Monday-Friday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Sunday: Closed
This is one of the best farmers markets in all of New Jersey. In addition to picking apples and pumpkins, their website also states that you can pick lettuce, potatoes, beans, peas and more. There are also many other activities such as a petting zoo, hayrides, pony rides, and a greenhouse with seasonal plants like kale and cabbage.
Battleview Orchards

This is a very popular spot with Monmouth County residents. Battleview Orchards offers an opportunity to pick your own apples and pumpkins, and also offers hayrides. After your pumpkin or apple picking, you can browse their bakery and farm stand. Before you go, visit their website or Facebook for updates on supply and hours of operation due to weather. Group-picking sessions are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays with a reservation.
Terhune Orchards

Hours: Open 7 days a week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Terhune Orchards is one of the most popular apple and pumpkin picking spots in Central New Jersey. If you plan on picking for both apples and pumpkins, the apple picking is located at 13 Van Kirk Road (about a two minute drive from the Cold Soil Road orchard.) You can also access the barnyard, where you and others can meet sheep, goats, horses, ducks, geese, and chickens.
Eastmont Orchards

Saturday & Sunday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Since 1923, the Barclay family has owned Eastmont Orchards. You will be handed an apple bag that can fit up to 20 lbs. of apples. Should there be a threat of inclement weather, check their Facebook page to see whether or not they will be open. Their website also features a “know your fruit” section that can help you select apples once you arrive at the orchard.
