With summer just around the corner, now is the perfect time to start thinking about how to give your apartment an updated look that’s fitting for the season. When I think summer home design, I think bright colors and fresh scents. Here are few ways my wife and I like to update our home, for your inspiration.
Blanket Swap
Dark colored comforters can seem dreary when the sun is shining and birds are chirping. Replace dark heavy comforters with lightweight blankets in soft shades.
Vacation Smells
Peppermint, gingerbread, and evergreen potpourri and candles are perfect for winter but can be a bit odd to display in summer. I want my home to smell like a relaxing retreat, having a vacation like feel throughout the season. If you can agree, try adding surf wax, lemonade, mango, coconut, or other like scents in your seasonal home décor.
Color Pop
A little extreme but a nice change – select bright colored paint such as a lime green or yellow to liven up one wall, known as an accent wall. Or, you could keep things simple and swap out artwork.
Create a More Inviting Floor Plan
I have friends who live in Monmouth and Ocean Counties – their homes fill with friends and family visiting and spending the night over the summer due to their luxury of having beaches nearby. (We bet our Middlebrook at Monmouth, Kentwood Village, and Victorian Gardens apartment renters can relate!) Give your furniture a good cleaning and re-arrange it to be more inviting.
Breakout Much Needed Summer Tools
Pull grilling tools, dip dishes, beverage dispensers, and other much needed tools out from storage.
Get Creative with DIY Home Décor
Shh … don’t tell anyone … I like Pinterest. When I was recently on it looking up recipes, I stumbled upon a DIY home décor idea and kept clicking around looking at more. The blog Desired Life offered this great idea – turning an old surfboard into an eye catching home decoration.
We hope you have a great summer!
