Exercising in Your Apartment Rental

Exercise. It’s something we all dread. Some of you may have made exercise your New Year’s Resolution, but find reasons why to stay home. Less than five percent of adults exercise for 30 minutes or more each day, according to a recent study. Here are a few ways to reach that number without leaving your apartment.



This is one of the easiest exercises to complete within your apartment. A floor mirror is a good idea for checking your posture during exercises. Yoga is a very apartment-friendly exercise because yoga mats can be easily stored underneath your couch or bed, or in a closet.

Yoga is great for improving your balance and your strength. Doing yoga in your own apartment will allow you to control the temperature, lighting and music. Look at a few videos on YouTube or purchase some DVD’s to learn new exercises, and create a routine.

While you might not be able to fit a whole home gym in your apartment, there are a variety of exercises that can be completed with dumbbells or body weight. Body weight exercises to build strength include planks, squats, and wall sits.

You can also purchase dumbbells from your local sporting goods store or online. Ones with adjustable weights, so you can increase the amount you lift as you build strength. Also consider pull up bars and resistance bands.
